Mills Bonus Slot Machine
I enjoy working on slot machines, not because I gamble but because they are mechanically interesting. I do not specialize in restoring slot machines and there are people that do a much better and less expensive job than I do. If a machine requires a complete rebuild, then I inform the customer to the fact, explain why it requires a comlete disasembly, and then recommend Mike Andrews. Mike does a "museum quality restoration" of the main mechanism.
In this case, the Mills was lubricated with a white grease that hardened like rock. I removed the mechanism and sent it to Mike. Meanwhile, I rebuilt the escalator, above, and the jackpot. Upon completion of the mechanism, I reinstalled it and checked the game for play.
The diagram above shows how the mechanism is disassembled. Notice how each series of removed objects points to its correct location. For example the washer, spring, outside washer and cotter pin are all lined up with the pin upon which they are to be installed.
